How I met your Daddies~ (Once upon a time...)
The challengers
The sound of trumpets echoed throughout the great hall as the door opened, revealing two figures. They walked along the red carpet towards the base of the throne to which they knelt in reverence to the one seated, the ruler of that kingdom and his lady.
"State your matters." came the emperor's command.
"Your majesty, I am Heechul from the land of Sidera. I am here to take part in the challenge for your daughter's hand." the first one spoke.
The emperor nodded and turned to the other.
"Your grace, I am Kazunari from the Arcus kingdom, here to win the challenge." followed the second with a slight smirk towards the first.
The emperor disregarded the gesture and insolence, in fact he regarded it as boldness and confidence rather than arrogance. The empress, on the other hand, found the second one with distaste and therefore had looked with favor towards the first.
The emperor motioned for the herald. The doorman nodded and opened the door of the west wing.
"His royal sire, Hongki of the Thesauri empire!" the herald announced as another figure entered the great hall.
"Your highness." he knelt before the throne like the other two.
The first two sires were both surprised and curious of the third sire's appearance but did not dare lift their heads to find out until the emperor spoke once again.
"You have heed our invitation and have traveled far. I commend you for that. You have also passed the preliminary obstacles we've set to test those who are worthy. I believe that you three are indeed noble and praiseworthy but as for the honor of gaining my daughter's hand in marriage, we have yet to see." the three nodded in understanding of the emperor's words.
The trumpets resound once more. This time the door from the east wing burst open and the herald's voice echoed throughout the hall.
"Her royal grace, Relian, heiress to this land of Munus!"
This time the three sires, even Hongki who had arrived a day earlier, lifted their heads to look as the heiress glided towards the throne where she took her place beside the emperor. She was followed by her five knights who knelt in salutation beside her throne.
The knights scrutinized the three challengers. When the three sires noticed they were being watched, they returned the look towards the knights as if sizing each other up.
The heiress, however, gave the slightest curiosity but had observed the exchange of the staring contest with pride upon her knights. Her interest depleted just as swiftly when the emperor spoke again, and she diverted her eyes back to her book to which she had been holding as if she had been simply pulled away from her readings for something so trivial.
The empress who had been quietly observing her daughter, merely sighed at her behavior. The emperor who had also noticed, cleared his throat before carrying on with his speech. It also broke the spell upon the knights and the challengers' stare-off.
"These are my daughter's knights. Like you, they are also heirs to various noble families who have serve the empire for hundreds of years." The emperor summoned the herald to introduce the knights.
"Knight Shun, head of the heiress' army." the first knight stood followed by the next and so on and so forth. "Knight Yuu, head of the archives. Knight Xander, head of social events. Knight Tegoshi, head of the heiress' palate. Knight Jo Kwon, head of finance." the herald finished and stepped back.
"They are have been well trained in combat, excelled marvelously in academics and are unparalleled in their own expertise. They will be your opponents in each of the challenge." continued the emperor who then turned to his wife.
"The challenges you will face will be according to each of the knights' fields of expertise. It will test your abilities in various areas, knowledge, swordsmanship and battle skills, so on." The empress added. "You will be judge according to the quality of your performance by the royal court and by the heiress herself."
Don't count on any points from me. the Heiress thought to herself as she pretended on focusing to her book. At that point, the three challengers' eyes fell on her and she wondered whether they're able to read her thoughts but quickly dismissed the idea as their attention went back to the emperor.
"The challenge will officially begin tomorrow. You must be exhausted from your long journeys, rest assured, we have prepared the best chambers for you." finished the emperor.
"Yes, Your majesty." they bowed once again and with that, the royal highnesses took their leave with the knights in tow.
Servants appeared after and led the challengers to their resting chambers where their supper was served.
The heiress gathered her knights soon after supper with her parents.
They had known each other since they were children and therefore lost their formalities when it's just the six of them. At this point, they're all lounging in the heiress' chamber.
"Only three have survived the preliminary test. It was a lot less than we thought." Knight Shun observed.
"Stars, Rainbows and Treasures..." Knight Yuu enumerated the three kingdom's embodiment to which the three challengers came from.
"Those three should prove the following days to be interesting." Agreed knight Xander.
"Interesting or not, you must not let them win." insisted the heiress rather seriously.
"My lady, do you not have faith in your royal knights?" Knight Jo Kwon jested, acting appalled.
Before she could respond though, Knight Tegoshi who was working with his latest creation of sweets, placed one on the heiress' mouth. "He was just kidding." he chuckled. "So, how's the taste?".
"It's delicious and melting." she replied through mouthfuls."Thank you. What's it called?" she swallowed and reached out for more. She wasn't able to enjoy a hearty meal with her parents lecturing her about her previous behavior and so therefore came back to her chamber with grumbling stomach.
"I call it, al mio diletto!" came the dramatic answer.
"Oh~" she continued nibbling the treat wondering or rather, whacking her mind for the meaning.
"It's Italian." Knight Yuu read her thoughts. "You've outdone yourself this time." he sniggered and gave Knight Tegoshi a slap at the back.
"That hurt!" Knight Tegoshi rubbed his back.
"As expected from the head of archives." Knight Jo kwon laughed. "t
"Why? What does it mean?" inquired the heiress.
"It's getting late, the challenge starts tomorrow, we must go." Knight Shun stood. The other Knights nodded and followed suit.
"Wait! You haven't answered my question yet." she cried out.
"Refresh your Italian, my lady. Buona notte!" Knight Xander looked back and winked at her.
"Have a pleasant night." Knight Shun bowed.
"Dulces Sueños!" Knight Jo kwon sauntered off.
"Beau rêve!" Knight Tegoshi waved.
"Dormire bene!" Knight Yuu bowed and pulled Knight Tegoshi then closed the door.
The heiress gaped at the closed door with arms crossed in front of her chest.
"Show offs!" She complained.
